Wilderness and Remote First Aid (WRFA)

This course teaches advanced skills to be used in emergencies when help from professional first responders may be far away. Topics include: primary and secondary assessments, head/brain, neck and spinal injuries, heat-related emergencies, hypothermia, altitude-related illnesses, allergies and anaphylaxis, burns, bone and joint injuries, and wounds and wound infection.

Per Volunteer Essentials, this level of training is required when access to EMS is more than 30 minutes. The minimum age for this training is 16. Certification is valid for 2 years. A minimum of 6 participants is needed to run the course and a maximum of 24. Current CPR/AED is required for the WRFA certification to be valid. Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED will be offered at the end of Day 1 if you do not currently hold a valid certification. CPR/AED can also be taken without taking the full WRFA course (Note: This does not include First Aid. First Aid is covered in the WRFA course).

Breakfast will not be provided on either day. Please plan to eat breakfast beforehand and bring snacks to get through the day. Bring a bag lunch for both days of the WRFA training. There is refrigerator space and a microwave. There will be a dinner option on Day 1 for those taking both the WRFA and CPR/AED or for those taking WRFA that would like to stay the night at the end of Day 1.
