This training is for those who would like to facilitate the climbing wall/zip line and low ropes course at Camp Archbald. This is a site-specific training and is not applicable to other facilities. Training will run from approximately 9am-5pm on both days. Please plan on bringing a bag lunch, lots of snacks, and plenty of water. You will need to wear closed toe shoes and warm/comfortable clothing.

The training for the climbing wall/zip line will take a day and a half. You must stay for the duration of the training. Low ropes training will be in the afternoon on the 30th, after the completion of climbing wall/zip line training. The price of low ropes training is included in the fee for climbing wall/zip line training ($100). If you are not interested in climbing wall/zip line training, you are able to register for low ropes training only for $50.

Note: There is a maximum of 12 participants for climbing wall/zip line training and a maximum of 12 for low ropes training. There is a minimum of 8 for either of these trainings.

Note: By attending the climbing wall/zip line and/or low ropes facilitation training, you are committing to volunteering at council-led climbing events at Camp Archbald on the following dates: November 1st 2020 and April 10th 2021. If circumstances prevent you from volunteering on one or both of these dates, you will be charged $20 per event that you cannot attend.

Details about climbing wall events:
-Climbing wall/zip line: three facilitators must always be present.
-Climbing wall (only): a minimum of one facilitator and an additional adult must be present.
-Low ropes: A minimum of one facilitator and an additional adult must be present in order to facilitate low ropes.

*When facilitating the climbing wall/zip line, climbing wall, or low ropes instructors must inspect all equipment, course components, and landing areas before use. Instructors need to be skilled in selecting appropriate activities, teaching and supervision, spotting and lowering techniques, and modifying tasks to provide an appropriate experience for the ages and skill levels in the group.

Girl Scout Levels
Per Safety Activity Checkpoints:
-The climbing wall/zip line are appropriate for Juniors and older.
-The climbing wall by itself without the zip line may be appropriate for Brownies. If harnesses/helmets do not appropriately fit a Brownie, she cannot participate in this activity.
-Low ropes elements are appropriate for Daisies and older. Initiative games and low elements require the group to work together to accomplish mental or physical challenges; spotters safeguard the movements of each member of the group.
